03 Jun Epic founder joins philanthropic pledge
VERONA, Wis. -Epic founder and CEO Judy Faulkner is joining a philanthropic pledge that encourages billionaires to give the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
The Giving Pledge was created by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates in 2010. A release issued Tuesday confirmed Faulkner signed the pledge.
An excerpt from Faulkner’s letter about the pledge states, “Many years ago I asked my young children what two things they needed from their parents. They said ‘food and money’. I told them ‘roots and wings’. My goal in pledging 99 percent of my wealth to philanthropy is to help others with roots – food, warmth, shelter, healthcare, education – so they too can have wings.”
Faulkner previously announced plans to leave much of the company she owns to a newly created charitable foundation after she dies.
Faulkner told Modern Healthcare the foundation will operate and fund not-for-profit organizations in health care and other areas.
“Nearly every share of stock that I own will be put in there,” Faulkner told the magazine.
Faulkner said the donation will come after she dies, although the 71-year-old told the magazine she is in good health right now.
