Marshfield Clinic joining statewide health system network

Marshfield Clinic Health System is joining abouthealth, one of the two statewide networks of health systems that have emerged in Wisconsin.

The move is another sign of Marshfield Clinic’s split with Ministry Health, which owns Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Physicians employed by Marshfield Clinic account for most of the doctors who practice at Ministry Saint Joseph’s.

In April, Marshfield Clinic announced plans to build a second hospital in Marshfield and said it wanted to align with abouthealth.

Ministry, part of Ascension Health, the parent of Columbia St. Mary’s, is aligned with Integrated Health Network, a competitor to abouthealth, while Aspirus in nearby Wausau is aligned with abouthealth. The health systems in the two networks plan to contract with health insurers and to work together to improve quality and control costs.

Other members of abouthealth include Aurora Health Care, Bellin Health in Green Bay, Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, ProHealth Care in Waukesha, ThedaCare in Appleton and UW Health in Madison.
