07 Oct SoLoMo Technology takes home $100,000 Rise of the Rest jackpot
SoLoMo Technology — a Madison company that describes itself as “Google analytics for the physical world” — won a pitch competition at the Majestic Theatre on Monday night and a $100,000 check from AOL cofounder Steve Case and his Rise of the Rest Road Tour.
“It feels awesome,” said a stunned SoLoMo chief executive Liz Eversoll, “especially since it was last minute.”
SoLoMo was one of nine local companies whose CEOs took the stage and made a 5-minute presentation to a team of judges. SoLoMo was a dark horse; it wasn’t on the initial list of nine but came in as a substitute when SnowShoe Stamp had to bow out because it is participating in a TechStars Disney Accelerator program in Los Angeles.
SoLoMo vied against companies that included Stemina Biomarker Discovery, whose scientists are developing a blood test to diagnose autism; Murfie, whose music CD storage and marketplace will expand to movies this fall; and MobCraft Beer, whose Rise of the Rest pale ale, brewed specially for the occasion, was praised as “awesome” by Case.
SoLoMo stands for social, local, mobile. Eversoll said when a customer enters a store, SoLoMo’s platform takes personal information that the customer chooses to share, giving the business more insight into the shopper and letting the company tailor its offerings to the shopper’s interests.
“Location data is a brand new category that provides us amazing insight into consumers and what experience they’d like to have,” Eversoll said.
