Stratatech will sell skin substitute in Europe

Stratatech Corp. will launch the full-thickness human skin product, called StrataTest, in Dresden, Germany, at Eurotox 2009, the annual meeting of European toxicologists. The company says it expects its research-only product to be a compelling alternative for makers of everything from shampoo to mascara to hand lotion.
The European Union in March banned sales of cosmetics and other personal care products that use animals to test for toxicity.
“New systems like StrataTest have made great inroads in offsetting any advantages that may have come with animal testing,” said Lynn Allen-Hoffmann, the company’s founder and chief executive. Allen-Hoffmann is also a University of Wisconsin-Madison pathology professor. “I’m confident we have an opportunity here.”
