A small Neenah biotechnology firm is venturing into food enhancement and anti-bacterial products based on its head’s mainstay research into contemporary applications drawn from ancient medicinal remedies.
The steps are the latest in a series of biotechnological successes for Arun Chatterji, president and chief executive officer of Ayurvedic-Life International, and his business partner, Dennis Torkko, executive vice president. The company has made promising strides into therapies for insulin-deficient Type 2 diabetes sufferers, but still is far off from getting FDA approval for a prescription drug to deal with the condition.
One of the firm’s newest products, with the trademark name of Bioster, is an all-natural and edible bio-emulsifier derived from a plant. It is listed on the FDA’s GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list, and incorporates a nanoparticle semiconductor technology.
