Recession increases IT project failures

As if the recession wasn’t bad enough, budget slashing and layoffs have also taken their toll on the success of IT projects, according to a report by The Standish Group. The group surveyed 400 organizations and found that IT project success rates were dropping. In the past two years, it found that one in four projects was considered a failure.
Some 44 percent were considered challenged: They finished late, were over budget or had fewer than the required features and functions, according to the survey. Jim Johnson, chairman of The Standish Group, told CIO.com it’s the first increase in IT project failures that he’s seen “in a long time.”
