Organizers unveil Spaceport Sheboygan strategic plan

A vision of Spaceport Sheboygan as the Midwest’s hub for aerospace development, education and — eventually — travel was unveiled Friday by the taskforce organized to pilot the ideas to touch down.
The timeframes are uncertain and the organization is in its infancy, but the Wisconsin Aerospace Authority has heady plans for this city on the lake.
“It’s one of those things (where) if you don’t try it will never happen,” said Mayor Bob Ryan. “And if it does happen, the jobs that can be created in our community involved in this are phenomenal.”
The opportunity lies in a no-fly zone, dubbed R-6903, that runs along the coast of Lake Michigan from Port Washington to Manitowoc. It was created decades ago when military exercises were done at the former Camp Haven, said Joe Leibham, state senator from Sheboygan and chairman of the WAA board.
