CUNA chief says reorg helped survive tough 2008

When Jeff Post took over as CEO at CUNA Mutual Group in 2005, he vowed to change what he called the “country club culture” at one of Madison’s largest employers.
While the financial services company was still profitable, Post said it was losing market share to competitors and losing the confidence of its credit union customers.
So CUNA Mutual began upgrading its information technology systems as it cut costs in other areas. It opened a new call center in Fort Worth, Texas and brought professionals in to manage its huge investment portfolio out of the Madison headquarters.
CUNA Mutual also began tying employee pay to performance, a move Post called “a novel concept for a mutual company based in Madison, Wisconsin.”
