01 Apr TrafficCast partners with GPS navigation firm
Madison, Wis. – TrafficCast, Madison-based provider of traffic and weather information, will partner with GeoMicro, a global positioning navigation provider, to deliver real-time traffic information and forecasts over mobile devices.
The announcement was made from the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association Wireless Show in Las Vegas.
The companies said they would develop a solution to meet growing demand for mobile (phone) traffic services by integrating TrafficCast’s traffic data into GeoMicro’s Mobium GPS application. Mobium integrates data with digital maps to provide navigation information to consumers with Windows Mobile devices.
Demand for mobile traffic services is increasing, with ABI Research recently predicting that location-based services and GPS handset applications in North America will grow from 500,000 in 2006 to 76 million by 2010. The companies seek to deliver real-time traffic information to consumers’ mobile phones in the top 100 U.S. markets.
