State announces online assistance for voters

Madison, Wis. – In advance of the Wisconsin presidential primary on Feb. 19, the state of Wisconsin has announced Voter Public Access, a new function of the state’s voter registration system to provide online assistance to voters.
Wisconsin voters can look up their polling place and other election-related information on the Internet under “voter information” on the Elections Division page on the Government Accountability Board’s website.
According to the state, Voter Public Access will give the public a new means of getting information about voter registration, voting history, normal polling place locations, current office holders, and sample ballots for upcoming elections.
Nat Robinson, state elections division administrator, characterized Voter Public Access as a convenient tool for voters who “want to double-check information about themselves, where they vote, or who they can vote for” before Election Day. “We hope it makes voting easier,” Robinson said in a statement released by the Government Accountability Board.
Voters can search for their own information using their name and date of birth, or they can search by address to find the polling location for that particular address.
In rare cases, a voter may vote on a provisional ballot, and the Voter Public Access page will also allow that voter to check the status of his or her provisional ballot.
The information provided on Voter Public Access pages comes directly from the Statewide Voter Registration System and is maintained by local clerks. Voters who do not find registration information about themselves in Voter Public Access should contact their municipal clerk to make sure they are properly registered to vote, and voters who find any out-of-date information also should report it to their local municipal clerk.
