Promega Corp. to expand operations in Sweden

Madison, Wis.Promega Corp., a provider of life-science research tools, will begin direct operations in Stockholm, Sweden next month, the company announced.
In addition to biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and agricultural companies, Promega Biotech AB will serve Sweden’s laboratories, universities, medical research centers, and government institutes.
Promega CEO William Linton cited Sweden’s strong life-science research base and its high per capita R&D expenditures. Sweden employs 48,000 full-time workers in R&D, and has the fourth largest biotechechnology industry in Europe.
“By establishing a business in Stockholm, we hope to achieve significant improvements in all aspects of service to the local life-science research community, from faster product delivery to individualized technical service,” Linton said in a release.
Patrick Van de Velde, who has more than 10 years of sales and marketing experience in biotechnology in Sweden, will serve as general manager for Promega Biotech AB.
Promega’s products are used by scientists in genomics, proteomics, and cellular analysis research. The products have been used in Sweden for several years and are distributed there by SDS Biosciences.
Promega, founded in 1978, employs more than 900 people worldwide and generates $200 million in annual revenue.
