Medical Associates to merge with ProHealth Care

Waukesha, Wis.Medical Associates has announced that it will join forces with ProHealth Care, which includes Waukesha Memorial and Oconomowoc Memorial Hospitals.
Under the agreement, Medical Associates will become part of the ProHealth Care system. The boards of directors of both organizations endorsed the acquisition this fall, and physician shareholders of Medical Associates voted Nov. 14 to approve the merger.
It is the latest example of consolidation in the metropolitan Milwaukee healthcare market, following Aurora Health Care’s acquisition of Advantage Healthcare, the area’s largest physician group.
The merger is expected to close in early 2008, and integration will take place over the next two to three years. For the foreseeable future, Medical Associates clinics will continue to operate under the Medical Associates name.
ProHealth includes 90 employed physicians at 16 medical centers, home healthcare and hospice services, and assisted and independent living communities.
Medical Associates employs primary and specialty care physicians at 12 locations in Waukesha, Washington, and Milwaukee Counties.
