30 Oct Alfalight secures $1.2 million from Army Research Lab
Madison, Wis. – Alfalight Inc., a Madison-based laser manufacturer, has been awarded a $1.2 million contract from the Army Research Laboratory to develop improved high-power lasers.
The contract will make it possible for Alfalight to leverage the results of two previous programs to create laser diode modules with higher brightness. While past contracts from the ARL have helped Alfalight improve the spatial brightness of laser diodes, the new program will allow the company to advance brightness and power to develop “high power arrays which can be cost-effectively fiber coupled,” the company said.
Among the uses for the improved lasers would be for marking, cutting, welding, and materials processing.
