08 Oct Northern Wisconsin firm to bring cellular service to rural Midwest
Green Bay, Wis. — A new company formed in northern Wisconsin plans to provide cellular coverage to previously unserved areas across the Midwest.
The formation of Hilbert Communications Inc. was announced at a news conference on Friday. Its founding team includes Todd Thiel, CEO of private equity firm McKinley Reserve; Steve Schneider, who runs Bug Tussel Wireless, and former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson.
Schneider said the firm has 170 cell towers and plans to have more than 600 in two years across the Upper Midwest, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The network uses the international GMS standard, which is used by AT&T/Cingular and T-Mobile but not by other U.S. providers.
