Alfalight acquired by telecom products firm

Madison, Wis. – Madison’s Alfalight, Inc., a maker of diode lasers, has been acquired along with another company by Arasor, a California-based maker of telcommunications and consumer optoelectric products, for $63 million.
Under the terms of the agreement, Alfalight will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Arasor, and will continue to be run by CEO Mohan Warrior.
The other company that was acquired is AOFR, an optical manufacturer is based in Canberra, Australia.
Arasor, located in Mountain View, Calif., did not indicate how much it paid for each company.
With the acquisitions, Arasor will bring key segments of the laser market in-house and increase its annual revenues by approximately $20 million.
Arasor has 140 employees at operations in the United States, China, Japan, and Australia. For Arasor, the acquisition of Alfalight opens sales channels in the United States, and it opens Arasor’s Asian sales channels to Alfalight.
Alfalight, a portfolio company of Venture Investors, has raised more than $57 million in venture funding, and the sale is an exit strategy for investors. Alfalight has several contacts with the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense, to develop laser technology.
