12 Jul Musicnotes metrics: Madison dotcom passes $5M in royalties paid
Madison, Wis. – The digital music market may still be in its infancy, but Musicnotes.com appears to be helping it grow up fast.
The Madison-based company, which sells downloadable sheet music, has announced that royalty payments to music publishers and the songwriters they represent recently passed the $5 million mark, including $2 million for royalty payments on Musicnotes’ digital sheet music downloads in the first six months of 2007 alone.
During that period, downloads at Musicnotes.com increased 40 percent over the previous year. Year-to-date, Musicnotes has sold almost 600,000 sheet music and guitar tablature downloads at an average price of $4.75 per download.
Musicnotes sold its first digital download in late 1999 and expects to sell its three-millionth download sometime this fall.
