NimbleGen partners with UK biotech firm

Madison, Wis.NimbleGen Systems, a Madison-based manufacturer of scientific research tools, will have its products sold worldwide as the result of licensing and supply agreements with Oxford Gene Technology, a microarray consultancy service headquartered in Oxford, England.
Under the terms of the supply agreement, the British firm will obtain DNA microarrays, which are used to analyze genes at the molecular level, from NimbleGen for use in its service business. Meanwhile, NimbleGen will be able to make and sell arrays designed by Oxford Gene Technology.
In addition, NimbleGen has obtained a license to Oxford Gene’s array patents, which cover the manufacture and commercialization of single-channel microarrays.
Dr. Stan Rose, president and CEO of NimbleGen, said in a release that the agreements provide NimbleGen with access to intellectual property rights that are relevant to its core business – high-definition genomics.
Oxford Gene Technology, which will add to its portfolio of North American licenses, was founded in 1995 by Sir Edwin Southern. The company is developing a family of prokaryotic chips for use in life-science research.
