Conference to address small town development

Menomonie, Wis. – The West Central Wisconsin Workforce Resource is inviting representatives from business, education, and government to participate in its 2006 Synergy Conference titled “Positioning for Economic Growth.”
The conference is scheduled to take place on Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sept. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Memorial Student Center.
Although some speakers have not yet accepted their invitations to the conference, the keynote presenters are slated to discuss a range of economic development issues.
Rebecca Ryan, founder of market research firm Next Generation Consulting, Inc. and former professional European basketball player, will discuss how “brain drain” affects smaller communities, and ways to reverse the flow of young talent to larger cities.
Jack Schultz, CEO of industrial development firm Agracel, Inc. and author of Boomtown USA, will speak about entrepreneurial and innovative development for rural areas, focusing on what separates thriving towns from struggling ones.
Wisconsin cabinet secretaries should be on hand to frame issues and illustrate ongoing regional challenges in sessions on affordable health care, economic development, education, quality of life, and workforce development.
Speakers include Helene Nelson, secretary of Wisconsin’s Department of Health and Family Services; Brian Levin-Stankevich, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; and Chris Queram, CEO of the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality.
The $99 registration fee is available through Aug. 31. A program description is available by clicking here. To register or for more information, contact UW-Stout Outreach Services at 715-232-2793.
