09 Aug American Idol spurs music software
Madison, Wis. – Drawing on the immense popularity of the Fox Broadcasting Company‘s hit television program, American Idol, computer software designers are preparing to exploit a consumer market catering to aspiring pop stars.
Sony Media Software, a producer of products for digital video, music, DVD, and audio production, has signed an agreement with FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide to develop two software products based on the show, which won the top spot in the Nielsen Ratings in two consecutive years.
Idol, now in the audition phase of its sixth season, is commonly recognized as one of the world’s most publicized vocal competitions, drawing throngs of contestants prepared to showcase varying levels of talent each year.
“The ever-increasing popularity of American Idol makes it clear that there are millions of aspiring musicians looking for an outlet for their artistic talents,” said Dave Chaimson, vice president of marketing for Sony Media Software, in a release.
The first product, Jam Trax, with over 600 music loops and samples, will give users a platform for recording vocals, changing tempo and key, and e-mailing songs from within the software.
The more powerful Extreme Music Creator, with hundreds of royalty-free music loops and samples taken from multiple genres, will let users access more advanced music-making features for remixing songs, burning them to CD, and publishing them to the web.
“These new software packages make it easy to create original songs in minutes and provide limitless ways to explore music, take center stage, and discover your inner idol,” Chaimson said.
The products are slated to hit major retail stores in October.
