29 Jun Bruker AXS parent buys affiliate company
Madison, Wis. – Non-controlling shareholders of Billerica, Mass.-based Bruker BioSciences Corp. registered almost unanimous approval today for the $135 million acquisition of their affiliate molecular spectroscopy company, Bruker Optics, Inc.
Both firms are part of the Bruker family of companies, which includes Bruker AXS in Madison.
Bruker Optics produces a variety of spectrometers, including Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and near-infrared (FT-NIR) instruments.
The combined company will be equipped to offer instrumentation and molecular analysis tools for pharmaceutical and biotechnology research, proteomics, and structural biology, among other fields. The tools also assist scientists with micro organism identification, advanced materials and nanotechnology, agriculture, and homeland security research.
Frank Laukien, president and CEO of Bruker BioSciences, said the addition of Bruker Optics will allow the parent company to expand market reach, increase its critical mass, and accelerate its efforts to grow profitability and cash flows.
“I am very pleased to receive this clear vote and mandate from our non-affiliated shareholders to move forward with the acquisition of Bruker Optics, which is now expected to close in early July 2006,” Laukien said in a statement.
Bruker BioSciences is the publicly traded parent company of Bruker AXS Inc. and Bruker Daltonics Inc..
Bruker AXS is a developer of life science, materials research, and industrial X-ray analysis tools.
Bruker Daltonics, also of Bellerica, Mass., designs and manufactures life science tools based on mass spectrometry.
