GE Healthcare enjoys robust growth in first quarter

Waukesha, Wis. — The vital signs are good for the UK-based parent company of GE Healthcare Technologies, which reported healthy profits and revenues during the first quarter of 2006.
Profits for General Electric Co.’s GE Healthcare division, which includes GE Healthcare Technologies, Waukesha, and GE Healthcare Bio-Sciences, rose 21 percent over the same period in 2005, as operating income grew to $496 million from $409 million. The earnings came on revenues of $3.66 billion, up 10 percent compared with $3.32 billion for the same period a year ago.
The GE Healthcare division, a $15 billion unit of General Electric, is one of five GE businesses to report double-digit earnings growth. Only the NBC Universal division reported a drop in earnings.
GE Healthcare Technologies provides medical imaging and information technology and patient monitoring systems.
