"Dasher" virus can turn off security applications

A computer virus named Dasher has become a greater threat with the spread of a new version that can turn off anti-virus applications and allow remote access to computer systems, security experts say. An earlier version of the virus was not as effective at infecting computers because of poor code. Dasher targets computers with Windows 2000 that have not yet been updated with a patch released by Microsoft in October.
