Fitchburg Technology Campus attracts nanotechnology firms

Fitchburg, Wis. — After breaking ground in October 2004, the New Venture Center at the Fitchburg Technology Campus has opened its doors to a full house in its first phase.
Ground-breaking will be held on Nov. 16 for the second New Venture Center building. Its anchor tenant is another nanotech company, Imago Scientific. When it opens, Imago will occupy 17,000 square-feet and have 46 employees, hoping to staff up to 71 over the next eight months.
“As a nanotechnology company, it is important to find a campus that allows us to expand and grow,” said Timothy Stultz, Imago Scientific President and CEO. “We don’t want to relocate on a frequent basis and FTC will support our expansion plans. After looking for almost a year, FTC was the first campus that met all three of our criteria: an appealing building, a campus with businesses that are high-tech and rapid growth-oriented, and a reasonable commute for our employees.”
When completed, the New Venture Zone will consist of three buildings located on adjacent lots.
Platypus Technologies, a nanotech company, is one of the tenants in the initial 46,000 square-foot building. In August, a Fortune 100 medical technology company took occupancy of more than half of the two-story building. Occupying the remaining space is Kegonsa Seed Fund I, L.P., an early-stage seed venture capital fund managed by Kegonsa Capital Partners, LLC. Kegonsa has invested in three Wisconsin-based companies all headquartered in the New Venture Center I.
“FTC is becoming a cluster for nano-technology now with two of the area’s biggest companies,” stated Chris Armstrong, project manager for FTC. “The buildings are specifically designed to answer their needs with flexible space and specialty air-handling capacity.”
Located just minutes south of Madison, the campus is expected to house dozens of high-tech businesses, a retail center, parks, recreational areas and residential offerings when complete.
