GE Healthcare third-quarter profits up 17 percent

Waukesha, Wis. — Profits for General Electric Co.’s GE Healthcare division rose 17 percent for the third quarter behind an 8 percent growth in total orders, the company reported Friday.
GE Healthcare — the London-based parent of GE Healthcare Technologies in Waukesha — reported revenue of $3.6 billion for the second quarter, up 7 percent compared with $3.3 billion for the same period a year ago.
Profits for GE Healthcare rose to $589 million from $503 million.
GE said total orders for GE Healthcare increased to $3.7 billion, up 8 percent over the third quarter of 2004. Equipment orders rose 7 percent to $2.3 billion.
For the first nine months of 2005, revenue grew 16 percent to $10.7 billion. Segment profit climbed 17 percent to $1.7 billion.
For the first nine months of 2005, GE reported earnings of $13.3 billion, or $1.25 per share, up 19 percent compared with $11.2 billion, or $1.07 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 13 percent to $123.2 billion.
