29 Sep GE Healthcare to acquire IDX Systems
GE Healthcare will acquire healthcare information technology provider IDX Systems Corp., of Burlington, Vt., the two companies said on Thursday. The transaction is expected to close by early 2006.
“Both GE Healthcare IT and IDX have complementary product lines,” said GE Healthcare Vice President Don Woodlock. “What we can offer together is a very comprehensive product line across radiology systems, across electronic health records, both in-patient and physician office electronic health records, and across administrative applications like scheduling and billing across the whole spectrum of organizations.
Woodlock said GE Healthcare’s current strengths in addressing the IT needs of individual departments and technology solutions for clinical needs, in combination with IDX’s focus on administrative systems for hospitals and large practices, would together make for a strong, comprehensive product line.
IDX systems are deployed to serve approximately 150,000 physicians and are installed at over 3,400 customer sites, including more than 850 group practices and approximately 370 integrated delivery networks servicing more than 500 hospitals. Founded in 1969, IDX has approximately 2,400 full-time employees.
Globally headquartered in the United Kingdom, with US headquarters in Waukesha, Wis., GE Healthcare is a $15 billion unit of General Electric Co. Worldwide, GE Healthcare employs more than 43,000 people.
