21 Sep S.C. Johnson lands in No. 2 spot in Information Week 500 list
Racine, Wis. – S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. made the No. 2 spot in the Information Week 500, up from 95th place in 2004. The top spot in this year’s list of technology innovators went to Capital One.
Seven other Wisconsin organzations, other than S.C. Johnson, made this year’s list.
Information Week has been maintaining the annual list for the past seven years, tracking organizations’ information technology agendas and usage, and examining their business practices across core areas of technology operations.
To qualify for the list, companies submitted applications outlining their management techniques, technology usage and staffing policies. Companies with at least $500 million in annual revenue were invited to participate.
Other Wisconsin companies and organizations and CIOs that made the list included Aurora Healthcare, Milwaukee (Jack Steinman); Banta, Neenah (Geoff Hibner); Briggs & Stratton, Wauwatosa (Richard Kolbe); CUNA Mutual Group, Madison (Rick Roy); Land’s End, Dodgeville (Frank Giannantonio); Manpower, Glendale (Rick Davidson); and the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority, Madison (Dennis Dassenko).
Land’s End and CUNA were in the Top 100, at positions 22 and 90, respectively.
S.C. Johnson spokesperson Petrell Ozbay credited the increase to the company’s effort to implement SAP systems across the organization’s operations worldwide. “It’s been flawless execution of SAP across the board.”
An Information Week article also cited the effective use of technology by the company to manage such quality of life benefits as telecommuting, improving employee morale by allowing them greater flexibility.
“Development doesn’t start at a certain level of an organization,” J.C. Johson CIO Dan Horton told Information Week, stressing the importance of applying those quality of life measures across the organization, including lower-level employees.
