Platypus Technologies wins another SBIR grant

Madison, Wis. — Platypus Technologies of suburban Madison has received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant for $200,000 from the National Cancer Institute. The grant is to develop a new liquid-crystal based technology for rapid quantification of protein activity, useful for cancer research.
Last fall, the company received a three-year Phase II SBIR grant for $2.14 million from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences. That grant was for the continuing development of a personal monitor for the measurement of low-dose, cumulative exposure to pesticides. The monitors are designed to be small, sensitive, inexpensive, rugged and suitable for studies involving children.
Platypus Technologies was founded in 2000 to develop nanotechnology products for the physical and life sciences. The company has 16 employees and is located in the Fitchburg Technology Campus.
