17 May RedPrairie releases prepackaged RFID systems
Milwaukee — RedPrairie, a business-process IT firm active in supply-chain software, says it has come up with a line of pre-configured RFID products for manufacturers.
RFID involves putting radio tags on products or containers that can be used to track them. Wal-Mart, for one, made sweeping mandates that its suppliers begin using RFID on all products by this January – but gave them an extension until the end of next 2006 because of implementation trouble.
Other major buyers have made similar demands, including the U.S. Department of Defense.
RedPrairie’s packaged products come in several levels, starting with simple “slap and ship” systems with RFID label printers. They’re made with off-the-shelf hardware components and RedPrairie’s software, the company said.
