06 May Hendee promoted to president of MCW Research Foundation; Gutterman steps up
Milwaukee — The Medical College of Wisconsin has promoted William Hendee to president of its non-profit Research Foundation.
T. Michael Bolger, the college’s president and CEO, made the announcement on Friday. “Over the past 14 years, Bill Hendee has provided outstanding leadership in three key areas of the Medical College of Wisconsin: biomedical research, technology transfer, and the growth and expansion of our Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences,” Bolger said.
He will now lead the organization that structures interactions between Medical College researchers and industry, guiding medical tech transfer and helping researchers patent and license their inventions.
Before joining the Medical College in 1991, Hendee was the American Medical Association’s vice president for science and technology.
David Gutterman, a professor of medicine and physiology, will take Hendee’s place as senior associate dean for research. Gutterman has held several leadership positions with the college. Hendee is still dean of the Medical College’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Bolger said that this year he expects 33 patents to be filed and four companies started based on Medical College research.
