08 Dec DMV to close Monday for computer upgrade
The Department of Motor Vehicles in Wisconsin plans to close all its offices on December 13 for the end of a system-wide computer upgrade. The new system, which has been in development for the past week, will combine registration and driver records to make searches faster and add newer programming languages. Employee training will take place on Monday, with offices to open the next day.
The existing system has been in place since the 1970s. Implementation of the new one began last Friday, meaning that services this week are limited. The DMV can take applications and fees, and conduct tests, but may not be able to perform other services.
More information on the switch-over is available at the DMV’s Web site.
