Standard Imaging acquires Canadian PIPSpro radiation treatment technologies

Middleton, Wis. – Standard Imaging, a Middleton-based provider of testing instruments used in support of radiation treatment for cancer cardiology and other applications, has announced the purchase of Masthead Imaging’s assets. Among the assets acquired from the British Columbia-based company are the PIPSpro software package and QC-3 phantom, for use with most electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs). The PIPSpro software displays, enhances and analyzes portal images and when used in conjunction with the QC-3 phantom, PIPSpro can perform acceptance testing, commissioning and routine QA on EPID units.
PIPSpro software provides numerous tools, image processing routines and statistical analyses. The system processes simulator and portal verification images, analyzes patient registration errors, measures image quality from an EPID during installation tests, provides a platform for quality assurance programs in radiation therapy and provides tools for writing and editing notes attached to images. Optional features include a dosimetry module for IMRT patient dosimetry analysis using film, portal imaging or computed radiography.
‘There is a natural fit between Standard Imaging and Masthead Imaging. We already share the same customer base, plus our engineering and sales expertise should further expand the market and application of the PIPSpro product line,” said Ed Neumueller, president of Standard Imaging.
The developer of the PIPSpro product line and founder of Masthead Imaging, Shlomo Shalev, and several of his associates have agreed to serve as consultants to Standard Imaging. The transfer of development and commercial distribution of the Masthead Imaging products to the Standard Imaging facility in Middleton will be completed by mid-summer. Standard Imaging plans to hire additional professional staff to support and grow the PIPSpro product line.
Standard Imaging is based in Middleton and develops calibration instruments used in critical oncological and cardiology specialties.
