MyWeather-powered alerting system surpasses 165,000 downloads

MADISON – Internet Broadcast Systems and Madison-based MyWeather LLC announced today Desktop Alert, a desktop application that alerts for breaking news and severe weather, has surpassed 165,000 downloads at IBS-affiliated television stations.
Powered by MyWeather technology, Desktop Alert is designed to deliver timely information to people while they are at work, away from their televisions.
“We’re able to use Desktop Alert to proactively grab viewers’ attention, alerting them to critical news and weather information,” said Nancy Cassutt, IBS vice president of content. “With 35,000 new subscribers in January alone, Desktop Alert has become a significant traffic driver to our partners’ sites and has the potential to be a valuable promotional tool to drive on-air viewership.”
IBS licenses Desktop Alert to its affiliated stations, which allows viewers to download the station-branded alerting system for free. When a local breaking news or severe weather event occurs, the desktop icon chimes and changes color. Linked with the IBS content system and the MyWeather alert servers, critical information is delivered instantly, luring people to the
host station’s Web site.
MyWeather operates the Desktop Alert and Premium Weather paid content program to 39 IBS-affiliated stations, provides weather imagery to all IBS station Web sites and licenses its market-exclusive Personal MicroCast to select IBS stations.
Internet Broadcasting Systems is an online news provider, operating local news and information sites with over 60 TV stations.
