19 Jan Alfalight Packages 20-Watt Combined Power Module
Madison, Wis. – Alfalight, Inc. announced the availability of a 20-watt combined power module (CPM-20) today, a multimode output beam that combines seven high-power emitter outputs. The new combination provides an optical power source designed to be used in industrial, marking, defense, telecommunications and medical laser applications.
“In combination with available specialty optical fibers, the CPM-20 forms the foundation of a modular fiber laser. It is the ideal optical engine to power laser applications that include fiber and DPSS laser pumping, laser soldering, marking and welding,” said Tom Earles, chief technical officer of Alfalight.
The CPM-20 provides over 20 watts of light and the package incorporates laser sources, fiber combiner and protection circuitry and mounts to a system heatsink or chassis. The unit requires a current of five amps at approximately 15 volts.
The CPM-20 will be demonstrated at the Photonics West 2004 show in San Jose, Calif. Jan. 27-29.
Alfalight Inc. is an University of Wisconsin-Madison spinout company, founded in 1998, that manufacturers high-powered diode lasers used in the industrial, defense and telecommunications markets. The company’s technologies were developed at the Reed Center of Photonics, an engineering research center at UW-Madison and are based upon the use of aluminum-free active (ALFA) diode lasers and structures incorporating buried gratings and ridges.
