Logicare Improves Patient Education Systems Technology

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Clinical teachers can now better organize and plan their teaching by allowing authorized users to view information about a patient that is part of their instructional process due to the release of an enhanced software product from Logicare. Additionally the new software allows all other medical disciplines to contribute to an instructional syllabus.
When a user creates a patient’s instructions, the system’s Visit Summary Tree lists the documents given to a patient. From the Educational Planning Center, users can also view Teaching History, which includes topic lessons as well as other educational documents. Improved search options allow users to more quickly access past encounters, and historical visit information for current, active visits are also a new enhancement to the product.
The enhanced products, Clinical Teacher’s PET, Essential PET, and CHECKOUT, have a new look, and have undergone a significant technological update. Two main components of the technology update: integration of a new, SQL Server Database and CCOW capability, both of which allow these products to better match customers’ IT environments.
Logicare, located in Eau Claire Wisconsin, is a software company that offers a suite of patient education systems, including enterprise-wide patient education options that can help facilities track patient instruction and assess learning outcomes. The company has successful hospital customers nationwide, and the most widely used information systems in the Emergency Department market.
Logicare’s products have been updated to be Clinical Context Object Workgroup (CCOW) -enabled, a mechanism that will aid in integration, including single sign-on for security. CCOW is a vendor independent standard developed by the HL7 organization that allows information in separate healthcare applications to be unified so that each individual application is referring to the same patient, encounter or user. CCOW works for both client-server and web-based applications.
This means that company’s systems can share user, patient and visit information with other CCOW-enabled applications. This capability allows a user to securely log onto all applications simultaneously, and to select a patient in one application and have all other applications synchronize to that patient. The upgraded products are HIPAA-friendly and include, authentication, role-based authorization, and audit trails.
All of LOGICARE’s patient education systems include the company’s patient instruction topics—over 2,500 in CHECKOUT and over 4,700 in both Clinical Teacher’s PET and Essential PET. As part of their support services agreement, customers receive new content from Logicare twice a year.
