TDS Metrocom Rolls Out New Private-line Ethernet Service

MADISON, WI. – TDS Metrocom and Internet Photonics announced today that TDS Metrocom selected Internet Photonics’ LightStack Intelligent Wavelength platforms to deliver new Ethernet services to enterprise customers and service providers. The service, called MegaDATA and GigaDATA will offer managed, protected connections in retail and wholesale applications.
According to Ben Goth, manager of data products for TDS Metrocom, GigaDATA provides a managed Ethernet service to meet the market demand for a reliable, protected high-speed private line data service. “Internet Photonics’ LightStack platforms provide secure, high-bandwidth, low-latency features while reaching the long distance our customers demand.”
TDS Metrocom will use Internet Photonics’ LightStack MXA in initial deployments in Wisconsin and will expand the service throughout TDS Metrocom’s service footprint over time. The technology allows TDS Metrocom to offer a managed high-speed private line alternative to today’s T1 and T3 services offered by its competitors.
“There is quite a bit of pent-up demand from large organizations looking for a means to migrate their legacy private lines to higher rate Gigabit Ethernet private-line equivalents. Until now, the alternatives have been hard to come by,” said Goth. “The MXA, and subsequently, our new service, provides the same service level guarantees and security of T3 lines, but increases the bandwidth 20 fold.”
The new service allows TDS Metrocom to cover distances up to 300 kilometers or more. The platform supports services on protected or unprotected rings, as well as point-to-point links, giving TDS Metrocom a service offering that typically exceeds the availability of the services it. The MXA allows the GigaDATA service to be provisioned remotely and service rates can be changed “on-the-fly,” minimizing upfront provisioning and ongoing operational expenditures.
