GE Launches Women's Health Initiative

GE Medical Systems is launching a national tour designed to educate women about the importance of their own health and wellness. The “GE Women’s Health & Wellness Tour” will kick off its cross-country journey September 17 in San Francisco.
“Empowering women with information about medical screening and prevention is the first step to making a more proactive approach to managing their health,” said Joseph M. Hogan, President and CEO of GE Medical Systems. “With the GE Women’s Health & Wellness Tour, we have a unique opportunity to reach out to more than one million women in cities across the nation – providing them with a hands-on experience and education that will increase awareness of health-related issues.”
Admission to the traveling exhibit, which includes 10 medical and wellness demonstration areas, will be free and open to the general public at more than 40 events throughout the upcoming months. The health exhibit will offer women a range of medical diagnostic tests, including bone densitometry, and cardiac (EKG) screenings. Information will also be presented regarding digital mammograms on GE’s Senographe(R) 2000D and other breast imaging technologies including MRI and Ultrasound. The wellness exhibit is a set of suites prepared with a woman’s physical and emotional well – being in mind. It offers a kitchen for healthy cooking demonstrations, low-impact fitness demonstrations, a wellness spa and yoga suite.
“The GE Women’s Health and Wellness Tour is a major opportunity for women to experience a holistic view of well-being, while gathering information and tools they can apply in their busy daily routines,” said Dr. Robert S. Galvin, MD, GE’s Senior Physician. “By working with healthcare and fitness experts nationwide, we expect the tour to help women make more informed health and wellness choices.”
The tour is co-sponsored by companies such as Reebok, Every Woman Magazine, International Spa Association, Hain Celestial, La-Z-Boy Residential, Molly McButter / Ms. Dash, Sutter Home Winery, Tropicana Pure Premium, and Vitasoy USA.
The tour will visit public events across the country that attract female audiences. Such events include several LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournaments, Saks Fifth Avenue’s “Key to the Cure” events, as well as many community events across the country.
“In joining with GE to be a part of the GE Women’s Heath and Wellness Tour, we are all working together to raise awareness on issues that affect a woman’s health and wellness,” said Kathy O’Connell-Johnson, Vice President of Fitness and Interactive Marketing, Reebok International. “We are confident that through a multi-business effort, the tour will empower women of all walks, giving them the opportunity to learn more about their personal health and increase their physical well being while interacting with other health-conscious women.”
