26 Feb MyWeather, LLC Acquires WeatherPoint Business From Tribune Media Services
Madison, WI – MyWeather(TM) LLC, a provider of weather applications, announced that it has acquired the WeatherPoint business from Tribune Media Services (TMS), a subsidiary of Tribune Company (NYSE: TRB). WeatherPoint provides Internet weather data, graphics and imagery to newspapers and other clients. The agreement should enable both companies to grow their respective market positions in online weather and print weather presentation.
“Tribune Media Services has relied upon the quality weather data we have provided for its web-based customers,” said Terry Kelly, chairman of both MyWeather LLC and Weather Central, Inc. “Now, customers will benefit from MyWeather’s expertise in presenting and displaying weather on the web. At thesame time, our sister company Weather Central will continue to provide weather data and forecasts to TMS for its print products, serving over 120 newspapers nationwide.”
“The arrangement with MyWeather allows Tribune Media Services to focus on serving print customers, while ensuring that our clients with Web requirements get the best possible service,” said Barbara Needleman, TMS’ vice president for Entertainment Products. “We are confident that MyWeather will do an excellent job of providing for these clients’ current needs, while giving them access to a broad suite of other innovative weather options,” continued Needleman.
MyWeather has created a special package of services from its Web Weather offerings to transition WeatherPoint customers. In addition, these businesses will have access to other MyWeather products such as Personal MicroCast(R), Weather Neighbor, Interactive Weather and Premium Weather.
