La Crosse, Wis, -- Firstlogic, Inc.
, a provider of information quality and postal automation solutions, announced Wednesday the general availability of the latest release of the firms directory retrieval system (DRS) software solution. DRS is designed for use on multi-line optical character recognition automation equipment. The solution enables organizations to consolidate and assign 11-digit barcodes to mail pieces in compliance with USPS guidelines to gain postage discounts.
Firstlogics DRS 6.01.01.I meets the latest United States Postal Services coding accuracy support system (CASS) and multi-line accuracy support system (MASS) requirements scheduled to go into effect Sept. 18, 2004. The technology is an extension of Firstlogics addressing systems.
Firstlogics DRS solution is a key component to servicing our customers each CASS/MASS cycle, said Michael Anderson, feneral manager for PTI, A Division of OPEX, and a provider of mailroom equipment. Our customers are required to be MASS certified prior to the September deadline and Firstlogic's release will help facilitate that goal.
The USPS CASS and MASS programs have a history of requiring vendors like Firstlogic to meet increasingly stringent requirements for addressing accuracy with a goal of automating more mail, said Hank Martin, Firstlogics postal automation sales director. The latest CASS/MASS cycle provided some unique challenges. For instance this years cycle required testing and verification of software compliance for correctly handling 0000 and 9999 ZIP+4 Codes to aid the USPS MERLIN verification systems installed at many postal facilities across the country. While our software has correctly handled these types of assignments for the past two years, testing and validation was especially strict this year, Martin added.
In addition to CASS certification other DRS features include the ability to correctly handle street addresses that overlap another address line and the ability to add latitude and longitude coordinates to a scanned address.
La Crosse-based Firstlogic specializes in enterprise-wide postal automation and data quality solutions for e-business, data warehousing, and print and mail applications.
