Alfalight’s New Laser Bars

Madison, Wis. - With the help of additional funding recently received from DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), Alfalight's line of high-power diode laser bars isare ready for the market. The company recently received a $3.9 million DARPA grant that enabled it to further develop its’ technology and increase the efficiency of their diode laser products. The new product line is called the ALB1 family of high-power diode laser bars and is available in sample or high volume quantities at all standard wavelengths.

"These new unmounted bars provide our customers with the flexibility they need to incorporate our diode lasers into their own unique package designs," said Tom Earles, chief technology officer at Alfalight, "With continuous-wave output power capability reaching 60 watts and wall-plug efficiency over 50%, Alfalight's laser bars demonstrate that they can exceed the performance of traditional laser bars."

Alfalight Inc., a University of Wisconsin-Madison spinout, is a manufacturer of high-powered diode lasers used in the industrial, defense, and telecommunications markets. The technologies that Alfalight incorporates into its products were developed at the Reed Center of Photonics, an engineering research center at UW-Madison

Alfalight’s Aluminum-Free Active region (ALFA) diode laser bars provide power conversion efficiency, increased reliability, as well as low series resistance, high thermal conductivity and high facet damage threshold for all direct diode and diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser applications.
