Fiserv Health and Aetna help employers control health care costs

WAUSAU, Wis.— Fiserv Health announced Wednesday it has entered into an agreement with Aetna Signature Administrators to gain access to Aetna's PPO network and stop-loss services for the clients of Wausau Benefits, a Fiserv Health company. This initiative is directed at self-funded employers with 100 to 3,000 eligible employees who traditionally use third-party administrators.

Aetna will offer a package of stop-loss, PPO provider network and large claim medical management services to Wausau Benefits clients. Wausau Benefits will deliver customer services including sales, account management, claim processing and customer interaction. Wausau Benefits will also provide utilization, case and disease management programs as well. The Aetna Signature Administrators program will be available to customers with effective dates beginning Jan. 1, 2005.

"Combining the resources of Aetna and Fiserv Health provides self-funded employers another sound solution to controlling health care costs," said Jay Anliker, chief operating officer of Wausau Benefits. "This agreement clearly expands and leverages the capabilities of both companies into new but related markets."

Wausau Benefits provides a single source for employee benefit plan administration, including health, dental, short-term and long-term disability claims. The company offers fully integrated pharmacy benefits and care management administration as well. Fiserv, Inc. acquired Wausau Benefits in 2003 as a part of the Fiserv Health Solutions Group. Wausau Benefits is accredited by URAC for Utilization Management, Case Management, Disease Management, HIPAA Privacy and Claim Processing.
